John 1:6 (insert your name)

“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.”

John 1:6

Insert your name in there.

“There was a man (or, woman) sent from God, whose name was (your name).

That’s crazy to me. God. God. Do we understand who this is? God. To think that He would choose me – you – and send us to carry His truth to others? To be used of God, to be sent by God…what an honor.

“You are my witnesses, says the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.”

– Isaiah 43:10

God was, He is, and He will be.

I love that.

He is a God of forever.

“Two are better than one. Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls. For he has no one to help him up.”

– Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Hey. We need each other. There is strength in community. You’re going to fall sometimes; life will knock you down. You may be laying flat on your back staring at the clouds and reeling with confusion and pain. You need that friend; the one who reaches out their hand and helps you to your feet again. Don’t try life solo. Grab a friend to walk with you.

“He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

– Micah 6:8

We make it so complicated sometimes, don’t we? Let’s get back to the basics, people. Press into the heart of God, dive into His Word, and bury yourself in His promises. Get back to truth. Get back to God. Get back to His heart.

LOVE LOVED greatly

“Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13 NKJV

Jesus is LOVE. The very essence of the stuff; walking, living, breathing:  LOVE. LOVE is Jesus and Jesus LOVED us so much, He laid down His life for us. He died for us. You. Me. Us. There was no greater LOVE than this because LOVE LOVED greatly.

“The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

 – Psalm 24:1 NKJV

This earth belongs to God; He did create it, after all. I don’t know why we ever thought it belonged to us in the first place. And “they that dwell therein”? That’s us. We were made for God. We belong to Him. He wants us. Each of us has a void inside that can only be filled by God. Until you allow Jesus Christ into your heart and life, that void will remain empty. It can only be satisfied by the One who created it.

I lay under the fireworks tonight. They crackle and burst and explode above me; the brilliant color reflects in my brown eyes.

And I wonder.

My Jesus…what if our love were like this?

Like this.

Like a speeding missile, shooting high and far into the world around; always pointing upward to the One who ignites us. This love explodes! It bursts into an array of color and wonder and joy. Its fingers reach out; it touches others. They too, are ignited. They too, explode, and do the same. More color. More wonder. More joy.

And more love.

It’s an array of color. It’s fireworks.

It’s beautiful.

Go make fireworks, my friends. Ignite hearts. Fan the flames of souls. And together we will create a beautiful array of color.
